Book Talk with Karen Winn

Book Talk with Karen Winn

From Karen Winn, author of Our Little World, comes The Society (Out January 20, 2026), a captivating story of two women whose lives become darkly intertwined with a secret society in the heart of Boston. Join us at Book Love for a seated conversation, Q&A, and book signing.

Register Here

More About The Society:

Welcome to The Knox, Boston’s most exclusive secret society. Rumors about the Knox and its influence have swirled through Boston for centuries. While some see it merely as an elite social club, others are certain it hides something more sinister. THE SOCIETY centers on the Knox through the eyes of two very different women: Vivian Lawrence, a high-end antiques dealer who grew up in the inner ring of old-money Boston and Taylor Adams, a naïve young nurse at Mass General Hospital who was raised far from Boston’s glittering elite and is eager to reinvent herself.

Vivian is accustomed to a certain lifestyle, but with her mother declining in a nursing home and money growing unsettlingly thin, she turns to an old family legend that ties her to the Knox and its inheritance. As Vivian pursues her connections to the Knox, she becomes charmed by Peter, a devilishly handsome Knox insider, who captivates her in a way that no one has before. But, can this charming yet secretive man be trusted?

Taylor moved to Boston with dreams of sophistication and status, chasing a ghost from her past—her late mother. Reality of life in her new city has been anything but glamorous until one night, an effortlessly elegant patient arrives in her ER. The unknown woman reminds her of her mother: beautiful, stylish, and captivating. But there are puzzling circumstances surrounding her arrival and then, without warning, she disappears overnight.

With hospital pressures mounting alongside a growing sense of discontent, Taylor quits nursing and takes a waitressing job at the Knox. Finally immersed in the world she’s always dreamed of, Taylor soon realizes all that glitters is not gold: her former patient was connected to the Knox—and her “accident” may not have been one at all. The deeper Taylor digs, the clearer it becomes: More so than wealth or status, secrets are The Knox’s currency.

Told in multiple timelines and POVs, including from the historic Knox brownstone itself, THE SOCIETY combines the buttoned-up, limitless power of the Roy family in Succession with Saltburn-level excess. A Boston resident, Winn drew from the true history of the city’s connections to the opium trade and her own experience as a nurse to bring her writing to life. The result is a dark and twisty tale of unimaginable wealth, sordid history, and deadly secrets, all set amid the deceptively charming cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill.

About Murder Your Darlings

Known for such brilliant historical novels as Those Who Save Us and The Lost Family, A Mighty Blaze co-founder and New York Times bestselling author Jenna Blum now offers a contemporary, suspenseful novel about love, loss, and revenge in the world of books.

Simone “Sam” Vetiver is a mid-career novelist finishing a lukewarm publicity tour while facing a deadline for a new book on which she’s totally blocked. Recently divorced, Sam is worrying where her life is going when she receives glowing fan mail from stratospherically successful author William Corwyn, renowned for his female-centric novels. When William and Sam meet and his literary sympathy is as intense as their chemistry, both writers think they’ve found The One.

But as in their own novels, things between Sam and William are not what they seem. William has multiple stalkers, including a scarily persistent one named The Rabbit. He lives on a remote Maine island, where his writer life resembles The Shining. And when writers turn up dead, including from The Darlings support group William runs, Sam has to ask: Is it The Rabbit—William’s #1 Stalker? Another woman scorned? Can William be everything he seems?

Narrated by Sam, William, and The Rabbit, Murder Your Darlings is a wickedly witty look at today’s literary landscape and down-the-rabbit-hole tale of how far people will go for love.

Book Talk with Michael E. Neagle

Join us at Book Love for a book talk with Michael E. Neagle, Q&A, and book signing.

About Chasing Bandits: America’s Long War on Terror

While the war on terror has been America’s largest and most publicized attempt to root out foreign enemies this century, the quest to identify and destroy real or imagined threats to national security has long been a part of US history. Indeed, since the onset of the United States' overseas empire at the dawn of the twentieth century, it has pursued enemies in places of strategic interest around the globe: the remote islands of the Philippines, the US southern border, hemispheric hot spots in Central and South America, and the greater Middle East.

The common depiction of these kinds of foes—private actors who did not formally represent the countries they fought for—has maintained a remarkable consistency over time. The only difference is that enemies who used to be called “bandits” then are now more often referred to as “terrorists.” The widespread use of such terms, which connote an illegitimacy of both cause and means, also has served to blunt deeper considerations of US foreign engagements. Drawing on six case studies, Michael E. Neagle spotlights the commonalities of how the United States has leveraged popular understandings of “bandits” to justify incursions abroad as well as rally popular and political support at home.

Book Talk with Ellery Adams in Conversation with Annie Hartnett

An evening with bestselling author Ellery Adams, in conversation with Annie Hartnett, celebrating Invasive Species, her genre-blending novel about four suburban women struggling to tame their inner monsters and the ancient sea creature who terrorizes them. The night will feature a seated discussion followed by a book signing.

More About the Book:

In this cozy horror novel from New York Times bestselling author Ellery Adams, an ancient sea monster masquerading as a beautiful woman must consume nine teenagers to maintain her immortality, for fans of Grady Hendrix and Melissa Broder.

Mrs. Smith is an ancient sea monster who’s been laying low in Cold Harbor for the last century. But now she must take nine human sacrifices before the Fall equinox to maintain her immortality, and the kids in town are ripe for the taking. No one suspects that the reclusive and beautiful woman who has finally come out of the run-down mansion on the hill is the evil that lives in their nightmares.

Only twelve-year-old Jill feels the darkness in their midst, but no one will believe her claims. The women of Cold Harbor, including Jill’s mother, are too busy struggling against their own monsters: greed, a husband’s infidelity, popularity. The only person who seems to believe Jill is the family’s housekeeper, Una, who may know more about Mrs. Smith than she can admit. Together, Jill and Una will both have to face their fears to defeat Mrs. Smith and save the town.

With the hilarious tone of The Pisces and the deep heart of Remarkably Bright Creatures, Invasive Species is a wildly original take on the feminist monster genre.
