Book Talk with Stephen P. Kiernan
Join us at Book Love for a talk with Stephen P. Kiernan as he discusses his latest novel, Pollock’s Last Lover.
About the Book:
Set in New York City in alternating time periods—the 1950s and the early 2000s—Pollock’s Last Lover is the engrossing tale of two women whose lives collide as they contend with the art and legacy of the brilliant, tragic painter Jackson Pollock.
In 2006, Sotheby’s sells a painting by Jackson Pollock for $140 million—the highest sum ever paid for a work of art. Two weeks later, an older woman named Ruth Kligman, in high heels and a dusty fascinator, contacts a smaller, less prominent auction house to announce that she was Pollock’s lover, and that he gave her his last painting. She declares that it was selfish to keep it in her apartment for fifty years, and that people should see this masterpiece in galleries and museums the world over. The bidding will start at $50 million.
Gwen, an up-and-coming associate at the firm, is assigned the task of verifying the painting’s authenticity. For Gwen, an ambitious woman in a field often dominated by men, it is her biggest project yet. And the company must have absolute certainty. Yet each step of the investigation raises larger questions—about Ruth’s cunning climb in the art world, and even about what caused Pollock’s sudden and violent death.
What follows, in alternating chapters and time periods, is a multigenerational portrait of women’s ambition set against the life and work of Jackson Pollock. From smoky Greenwich Village dive bars to glitzy art auctions, from the empty studio of a man once known for his artistic stamina to the fine museums where his works hang, Ruth’s controversial painting provides a window into two eras—and the ongoing struggle of women to develop power and freedom on their own terms.

About The Sensitive One
The Sensitive One is a braided memoir that alternates between my childhood, as a sensitive child and then teenager who shouldered the burden of caring for my younger siblings as my dad's alcoholism tore at the threads of our home life, and an adult who for a decade-plus has been living a trauma-free life with a caring husband and rewarding career in nursing . . . only to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Sensitive One is a story that asks: Did the stress in my childhood (ACE's, adverse childhood experiences) contribute to my breast cancer diagnosis? Did it contribute to my panic attacks, anxiety, and eventual depression diagnosis?

Against the backdrop of complicated, beautiful South Africa in the 1960s, an epic family saga unfolds.
Eve Hunter has grown up on her family's dairy farm in the Lowveld, but she's inherited more than just a love of the land—she's inherited their sorrow. When her father is electrocuted while building a barn, the tragedy exposes the dark secret that has run beneath her family's sadness for years. Eve turns to Jack, her closest friend and neighbor, for comfort.
But Jack belongs to Kate, her older sister, at least that's what their families have always assumed. As Eve and Jack's bond deepens into something more charged, Eve faces an impossible choice to either honor her family’s expectations or to follow her heart and risk everything.
Then Kate comes to her with a devastating request that could change everything between them.

Stephen Sayers Author Signing 3pm-4pm
I spent my first thirty-five years in New England before joining the University of Missouri as a research professor. When I'm not in my laboratory, I spend time devouring my favorite forms of genre fiction—suspense, thriller, and horror.
While my published research articles and scientific book chapters reflect the logic and precision of left brain thinking, my right brain has roared back with a vengeance. Decades after going to Venus, I found myself once again on the sands of Cape Cod—sans lime green umbrella—with a story that would not leave my head. I tried to ignore it, but the characters called to me, begging to let them out. On a dare from my daughter, I began writing and spent the next twelve months glued to my computer, possessed to create the first in a series of supernatural thrillers. A Taker of Morrows was my first horror novel, but the characters called to me, begging for a sequel. And then The Soul Dweller appeared in 2018 and The Immortal Force came along in 2019. Between 2022 and 2024, I joined Reedy Press for a couple of travel-related books, 100 Things to Do in Columbia Missouri Before You Die and 100 Things to Do in Plymouth Massachusetts Before You Die. But the fiction writer returned in 2024 and 2025 with The Carousel Man and my newest novel, tentatively titled, Beneath Still Dark Water. Keep an eye out for it soon!
Throughout my journey, I've accumulated five guitars, four herniated discs, three academic degrees, two dogs, and one wife, son, and daughter, but not necessarily in that order. I divide my time between Columbia, Missouri and Cape Cod writing and teaching.

Dead in the Water: The Real Story of Nathan Carman
When Nathan and Linda Carman were a week overdue on a fishing trip, few thought they would still be alive. Even the Coast Guard had called off its search. So it seemed miraculous when Nathan was spotted — on a life raft, 106 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard — by the Chinese freighter Orient Lucky.
But was it more than luck? His mother Linda was missing at sea. Then news broke that Nathan was the primary suspect in his grandfather’s unsolved shooting death three years before. The last person to see them alive, 22-year-old Nathan was now in line for an $11 million inheritance! He sure looked guilty.
Or, did his grandfather’s dark secrets harbor other suspects? Was Nathan just misunderstood and targeted by police due to his autism? After ABC 20/20 and Netflix documentaries plus multiple books, speculation abounds and lacking eyewitnesses, the verdict on Nathan Carman has been up in the air.
Until now! Maritime Attorney David Farrell delivers the first evidence-driven, insider account. Drawing on exclusive exhibits and his five interrogations of Carman, Farrell and his team fill in the blanks with oceanography, forensics, and missing documents they hunted down close to home and around the world.
Dead in the Water readers will uncover never-before-revealed details about Nathan’s missing assault rifle and what happened to his mother on their doomed fishing trip. Then pull up a seat inside the federal court trial to see if Nathan’s dream of drifting away with millions of dollars comes true.

Book with Mark Ciccone
Join us for a book talk with Mark Ciccone as he discusses his new novel Secrets Among Friends.
Two best friends. A death shrouded in mystery. A love triangle.
And a trail of dark secrets dating back to World War II.
When Paul Pandolfo accepts a consulting job in Southeastern Europe at the invitation of his charismatic boyhood friend Tom Fairbanks—now the CEO of a European consumer goods company—he expects nothing more than a personal and professional reunion. Instead, he arrives to devastating news: Tom is dead, allegedly from a heart attack. But the details don’t add up.
Haunted by a shared past and a romantic betrayal, Paul sets out to uncover the truth behind Tom’s final days, especially an ambitious project he was working on called The Network—a seemingly random collection of factories, research and technical centers, and distribution hubs in surprising locations that would represent the largest ever investment in consumer goods in this part of the world.
As he retraces Tom’s steps through his family’s history in Hungary and the fractured landscape of the post-Yugoslav Balkans, he begins to suspect that there may have been much more to the man he thought he knew.
The action moves around the murky backwaters of central and eastern Europe, from Serbia to Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Hungary, each providing a piece of the puzzle. The novel conveys a strong sense of place in a little-known part of the world. While the setting is the contemporary world of today, the reader learns a lot about the region’s troubled history, from World War II to the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s to the conflicts of today.
Told with a wry, introspective voice and driven by an ever-deepening mystery, Secrets Among Friends is a deeply layered exploration of friendship, ambition, and the legacy of family.
Part travelogue, part elegy, and part political intrigue, this intelligent and emotionally charged novel asks: How well do we ever really know the people closest to us?

His debut psychological thriller, The Grotesque, was long-listed (top 2%) for the Cheshire Novel Prize and draws inspiration from writers such as Gillian Flynn and Chuck Palahniuk, and films such as Black Swan and Radio Flyer. The story examines guilt, obsession, and the fragile boundaries between love and trauma. His storytelling is as much about grappling with life's darkness as it is about embracing its profound, messy beauty.
His films, which span the sci-fi, horror, and comedy genres, feature elements of suspense, moral conflict, and often, just plain fun.
Born in Defiance, Ohio, Sean was raised primarily in Pennsylvania and has lived in seven states, having settled in Massachusetts with his wife and two daughters. He is hard at work on his next novel.

About the Book:
In Like Home, Mollie Crowley Reid, a schoolteacher, lives in rural Michigan with her husband, Tom, a store owner and farmer, and their adopted daughter, Cecilia, an art student. In the depths of the Great Depression, Mollie receives unexpected news that impacts the future of her family and makes the threats to their economic well-being even more daunting.
Facing these new challenges, Mollie fights to maintain her beloved career, her home, her health, and her family, all the while reaching out to help those around her as best she can. Cecilia, orphaned during the influenza epidemic of 1918, seeks connection to her biological family and her identity as an adult and artist. Tom, with sometimes crushing responsibility, fights to maintain his livelihood and mental health, make sense of turbulent politics, and extend compassion and assistance in his community.
Moving between rural Michigan, the urban and university art scene, and the homes, trains, and gathering places that anchor community life, Like Home explores the meaning of family biological, chosen, and forged through hardship. Through trials of illness, financial hardship, unsettling times, and family displacement, they discover home is not a place but rather the people who choose to love and support each other through life's unexpected turns. And family, they learn, is built on shared struggles and love.

Book Talk with Tara Lynn Masih
Join us at Book Love for an evening with Tara Lynn Masih as she discusses her new novel The Silent Women.
About The Silent Women
An extraordinary novel inspired by the real women of Oak Ridge, Tennessee—the Manhattan Project’s “Secret City”—where thousands kept the deadliest secret of World War II.
Oklahoma, 1935. Black Sunday. From the moment a wall of black dust devours the plains and buries her world, Song Holloway’s life is marked by dislocation and loss. Even in the rural New England town she now calls home, that dark cloud continues to follow her.
Then the army asks her to take up work at a classified facility in the muddy outpost of Oak Ridge, a city that doesn’t appear on any map. Trained to test pipes, Song searches for leaks in a system no one will explain. The work is dangerous. People vanish. Yet it’s here, behind the barbed wire and watchtowers, that she finds what the dust storm stole: a place to belong and women who become her second family. And there is Hol—a gentle soldier who gives her, for the first time, peace.
Until she’s summoned. A small room. Two agents. Men with power she will never have. Song is given a command: spy on the women in your life. In a city built on secrets, keeping quiet used to be enough. Now it makes her complicit. But Song’s choices will haunt her long after she learns what flowed through those pipes.
The Silent Women is a sweeping, absorbing, and deeply human story about chosen family, moral courage, and what it costs to live with the truth. Perfect for readers of The Women of Arlington Hall, The Frozen River, and The Women.

About Paul Scheufele:
Paul Scheufele (pronounced Shife'-Lee) is the author of Damaged Goods, a compelling debut novel that blends literary storytelling with the emotional depth of upmarket fiction. Paul creates character-driven stories that explore ethical dilemmas, family secrets, and the quiet choices that can change everything. He holds degrees in American Studies from Middlebury College (BA) and Fairfield University (MA), and an MBA from Babson College. Before pursuing fiction full-time, he worked in finance, ultimately becoming a Managing Director at a global investment bank. Later, he taught upper school English at two private schools in Connecticut for nearly a decade. These experiences add depth and authenticity to his storytelling. A native of New England, Paul and his wife, Susan, raised three sons in Fairfield County, CT. Now, Paul and Susan live in Boston and Truro, MA. When he’s not writing, Paul enjoys reading literary fiction, golfing, gardening, hiking, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
About Damaged Goods
The past collides with the present as Brendan O'Shay, a high-powered Wall Street trader, is forced to confront a haunting legacy. When his estranged sister Cassie dies unexpectedly, Brendan inherits a life-altering secret: he is now the custodian of her frozen eggs. This discovery thrusts him, his wife Laura, and their son Shannon into a whirlwind of emotional and ethical dilemmas.
Set against the backdrop of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, Brendan struggles with existential crises at work and home as he grapples with the possibility of bringing a part of Cassie back to life. His quest to find nurturing parents for the eggs evolves into a heartfelt exploration of love, forgiveness, and second chances.Damaged Goods is a captivating family saga that beautifully illustrates the complexities of human relationships, inviting readers to reflect on their legacies and the potential to rewrite their stories.
With the emotional depth of Jodi Picoult, the literary grace of Ann Patchett, and the moral complexity of Celeste Ng, Damaged Goods delivers a timely and profoundly moving story for fans of My Sister’s Keeper, Commonwealth, and Little Fires Everywhere. It’s an ideal choice for readers who enjoy book club fiction, literary family dramas, and stories about second chances.

Lois Cahall in conversation with Pamela Kelley
Join us for a special book talk with Lois Cahill in conversation with Pamela Kelley to celebrate the release of Maybe Marilyn.
What if, on the night of August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe didn’t die? What if she got away? Because all she ever dreamed of was to disappear and have a child.
Marilyn Monroe’s housekeeper, Eunice Murray, and her psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Greenson, were the only two people to see her dead. Five hours elapsed between the time they found Marilyn’s body and the authorities were contacted. These facts beg the question: Why was the house rearranged, phone records seized, and evidence destroyed? Was her suicide staged?
Set in 2019, this is a novel about Marilyn Monroe the survivor instead of Marilyn Monroe the victim. When two young reporters get the tip of a lifetime, they go on an elusive search to find her—and learn a thing or two about history in the process. Whether they find Marilyn or not remains to be seen, but what they do find is her granddaughter—alive and well—living on Cape Cod. This is a story of love and hope. This is the ending we all would have wanted for Marilyn. Biographers have long claimed that there is a world of devoted fans who hunger to bring their idol back to life. Their hunger has never waned. Nor have the flawed reports.… #MarilynLives

Book Talk with Ellery Adams in Conversation with Annie Hartnett
An evening with bestselling author Ellery Adams, in conversation with Annie Hartnett, celebrating Invasive Species, her genre-blending novel about four suburban women struggling to tame their inner monsters and the ancient sea creature who terrorizes them. The night will feature a seated discussion followed by a book signing.
More About the Book:
In this cozy horror novel from New York Times bestselling author Ellery Adams, an ancient sea monster masquerading as a beautiful woman must consume nine teenagers to maintain her immortality, for fans of Grady Hendrix and Melissa Broder.
Mrs. Smith is an ancient sea monster who’s been laying low in Cold Harbor for the last century. But now she must take nine human sacrifices before the Fall equinox to maintain her immortality, and the kids in town are ripe for the taking. No one suspects that the reclusive and beautiful woman who has finally come out of the run-down mansion on the hill is the evil that lives in their nightmares.
Only twelve-year-old Jill feels the darkness in their midst, but no one will believe her claims. The women of Cold Harbor, including Jill’s mother, are too busy struggling against their own monsters: greed, a husband’s infidelity, popularity. The only person who seems to believe Jill is the family’s housekeeper, Una, who may know more about Mrs. Smith than she can admit. Together, Jill and Una will both have to face their fears to defeat Mrs. Smith and save the town.
With the hilarious tone of The Pisces and the deep heart of Remarkably Bright Creatures, Invasive Species is a wildly original take on the feminist monster genre.

Talking to the Moon is a steamy, emotionally charged romance that blends heartbreak, healing, and unforgettable chemistry.
When Selene Lewis moves to Hawaii to stay with her best friend Sam and his family, she wants nothing more than a quiet chance to rebuild her life. But everything changes when she meets Johnny—Sam’s older brother, a world-famous musician carrying private grief. Outside the spotlight, Johnny isn’t the legend fans know. He’s real, imperfect, and dangerously captivating. Their connection is instant, undeniable, and frightening for a heart still learning to trust.
As Selene’s modeling career rises, her new stability is shaken by long-buried family tensions and the return of her abusive ex. Torn between the warmth of chosen family, the fire of new love, and the shadows she fled, Selene must decide whether opening her heart is worth the risk—or if love will cost her more than she can bear.
This novel explores survival, found family, and second chances—delivering the kind of emotional intensity and sensual slow burn readers of Colleen Hoover, Ana Huang, and Tarryn Fisher crave.
